Pallet delivery costs explained
UK pallet networks don't charge by the kilo. They charge per pallet, by its class (set by weight and height), the distance, and any extras. These are typical 2026 prices, excluding VAT.
Typical prices
| Pallet | Up to | Typical price (ex VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Quarter | 250 kg, 0.8 m | £25 – £45 |
| Half | 500 kg, 1.1 m | £35 – £60 |
| Full | 1000 kg, 2.2 m | £45 – £90 |
Short local runs sit at the bottom of these ranges and long national runs at the top. These are published guide prices; your carrier's contract rates can be quite different.
What changes the price
- Class: weight and height. A light but tall pallet costs as much as a heavy one.
- Distance: local, regional or national.
- Remote areas: Scottish Highlands, islands and some other postcodes carry a surcharge.
- Service: timed or next-day delivery costs more than a 2–3 day economy service.
- Access: no forklift at the delivery address usually means a tail-lift surcharge.
How to pay less
- Watch the height limits. Stacking lower to get under 1.1 m can move a pallet from "light full" to "half".
- Fill pallets properly. Fewer, fuller pallets usually beat more, lighter ones.
- Share the weight. Two balanced pallets can land in cheaper classes than one heavy and one light.
- Compare carriers for regular routes; published prices vary a lot.
Pallet Plan shows each pallet's class, weight and height with an estimated price, and hints when a lower stack would be cheaper. You can enter your own carrier's rates.
